Sandalwood

Sandalwoods are often heavy, yellow and golden to amber in colour, fine-grained, and fragrant. Sandalwood is often cited as one of the most expensive woods in the world, which can be mostly accredited to both the wood and the oil producing a distinctive fragrance that has been highly valued for centuries. As a result, some species of these slow-growing trees have been victim to over-harvesting and we at Faer & Haas have been careful to select our bead suppliers with great care to ensure ongoing supply and sustainability of the stunning hardwood.

Sandalwood oil has a distinctive soft, warm, smooth almost creamy precious-wood scent and imparts a long-lasting, woody base to perfumes and cosmetics even burned as incense.

Fun Fact: Sandalwood is widely-considered to be the national scent of India

Religious Meaning:

Sandalwood is considered sacred in many religions including Sikhism, Jainism and the Hindu Ayurveda and the wood is frequently used for worshipping deities, either as sculptures or prayer beads.

It's even said that goddess Lakshmi lives in the sandalwood tree.
